Join us as we kick off our HOODOO HERITAGE MONTH series of events by kicking off with an AUTHOR’S TALK + BOOK SIGNING with Dr. Yvonne Chireau, author of Black Magic: Religion and the African American Conjuring Tradition. Moderated by Iya Shantrelle P. Lewis, we’ll be discussing the tradition of Conjure in the African American community and how it has evolved over the centuries. Dr. Chireau was the consulting scholar of the groundbreaking film SINNERS. We’ll also discuss the portrayal of Conjure in popular culture and media and its influences today.
The talk will take place at OUR HOUSE CULTURAL CENTER located at 6380 Germantown Ave. , followed by a BOOK SIGNING, meet and greet and book signing with Dr. Yvonne Chireau at our SHOPPE down the block located at 6147 Germantown Avenue.
